NEW DELHI: A headless body of a woman was found inside a manhole on the premises of a four-storey building in south Delhi’s Munirka.
Senior police officers said that the body, found late on Friday, was decomposed and had a tattoo on the lower back. They are trying to establish the identity of the woman.
Around 9pm, the people living in the building, mostly tenants, informed the police as a strange smell started coming out of the manhole. On reaching the spot, the police found the unclothed body wrapped in polythene. Crime and forensics team rushed to the spot and the body was sent to AIIMS for a postmortem.
The building has 31 rooms and houses more than 50 people, mostly belonging to the Northeast. The owner of the building, who lives in a house near the building, is being questioned. “The woman seemed to be between 20 and 25 years of age. CCTV footage of the area is being scanned,” said Nupur Pasad, additional DCP south.
Some people living in the building are suspected to be behind the murder and a strict watch is being kept on them, police said, adding that the body seemed to be a week old. A case of murder has been registered.
