PATNA: Days ago, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar broke ranks with other opposition parties to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s notes ban. Today, PM Modi returned the favour and praised Mr Kumar on his decision to ban liquor in his state.
“I want to thank Nitish Kumar on one thing. Social change is a very tough thing to do. Yet he has shown remarkable ability in implementing prohibition and I want to request everyone in Bihar that it’s not only Nitish’s job but of the whole society and this if Bihar is successful is this then the whole country will be inspired,” the Prime Minister said in Patna.
PM Modi is in Patna for ‘Prakash Utsav’, which marks the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.
Nitish Kumar has upset many by supporting the central government’s notes ban despite opposition parties like the Congress and the Trinamool aggressively campaigning against it.
“In the beginning, people might face some inconvenience but taking everything into account, it would yield positive results,” Mr Kumar said in November, days after PM Modi suddenly banned 500- and 1,000- rupee notes.
